Nikkor AF-S 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR with included matched 1.25x teleconverter

Although the Nikon 800mm + 1.25 converter = a really sharp 1000mm at f/7.1, I have been sceptical about shooting fast flying action with this combination... until now. Since there are so few images taken with this combination on the net I decided to share an example. Unfortunately many of my images have been lifted off the net - even for commercial newspaper advertisements! So please bear with the copyright marks Undecided

Immature Lanner Falcon Falco biarmicus with Red-headed finch Amadina erythrocephala prey. Unfortunately the hunting only picks up a bit later in the morning when the lighting starts becoming harsh which required a slight shadows&highlights filter treatment with the associated increased noise in the shadows.. but still not bad for ISO 2000 I think...

Nikon D4s with Nikkor AF-S 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR with matched 1.25 teleconverter rendering 1000mm at f/7.1

Exposed at 1/3200 sec; f/11; ISO 2000

This is only a small crop for the screen and I am quite pleased with the D4s and 800 combination. Obviously the autofocus holds up well for fast action, although panning a fast moving subject like this with the small angle of view at 1000mm is quite a challenge Wink
